1976 Citroen Dyane 6

Completely original (including chassis and roof) apart from electronic ignition recently fitted.
Reason for selling: it is just not getting used and I want to buy a boat.
I cannot run a classic car and a boat!

Taxed and MOT'ed until December 2010, it sailed through the last MOT and I doubt as to whether I have done 200 miles since.
Just 76,000 genuine miles since new, the car was stored for 12 years, masses of history, old Mot's etc.

It also has a brand new clutch fitted and tow bar.

Also there is a 'A' frame towing bar free with the car.

A completely reliable and useable classic car, drum brakes recently overhauled and fully serviced. It is in incredible all round condition for nearly 35 years old with all doors, boot, sills etc. in fantastic order. One door does has some kick marks, small dents, done by some little s... who didn't know a classic car when he saw one!!

It does, as to be expected have some surface rust on the wings and if you wanted to bring it up to perfect condition it would need this treating, something I was going to do, the bonnet also needs sorting at the front above the catch, damaged by some over enthusiastic closing (slamming).

As I said I fully intended to bring this car back to as near perfect condition as possible including a complete respray but lack of time and funds and other things, like making a living just got in the way. The drivers seat is split and will need sorting but I think that is all that needs doing internally.

After much soul-searching I have decided to pass on my lovely Deauville Canard with a very special number plate for 2CV afficionados everywhere. Here it is!

C 2CVO ( Citroen 2CV Zero)
It was constructed by Mike Horton, chief engineer of Deauville Cars to a very high spec. on a new galvanised chassis.
I have just spoken to the MD and he is currently turning out the MK 2 version (which has slightly larger windows and a slightly higher windscreen) for a little over £8000.

My car has been maintained by Silly CVs of Rochester and only last month had a whole new front exhaust manifold fitted at the last service

A couple of years ago I actually exhibited the car on the red carpet at the Le Touquet Concours d'Elegance - see first picture which was published by La Voix di Nord newspaper. It drew quite a crowd!

It has 4 almost new tyres with chrome trims and the tyres themselves also have their own whitewall trims.
The seats are cream leather from (I believe) a jaguar XJS. Fully convertible with lovely maroon hood in near-pristine and removable windows. It's a delight around the French country lanes!

Highly polished (gloss) wooden dashboard with electric window washers. Pioneer multi CD/radio in the boot and the controller is hidden discreetly behind a pull down door on the dash.Taxed to January 2011 and MOT until July 2011.The car has been garaged at all times since I bought it and has completed 7151 miles.

The car bears possibly the most desirable 2CV number plate you are ever likely to find.

I might be prepared to split the car and number plate by arrangement. If you want the car but not the plate, I have another 2CV (yes, I am hooked) which has a less desirable number which I could probably swap (could be an attractive option if your name is Mavis!). If you would like the number and not the car we can talk about it but my preference is to sell the whole package together.

Reluctantly we have decided to sell our Deauville Canard – “The Best 2CV that Citroen Never made” !

Grandchildren, child seats, etc mean a return to a regular 2CV with 4 doors and a full-size rear seat.

The Deauville was built by Mike Horton based on a 1989 2CV6 Special . New galvanised chassis, refurbished running gear, engine , gearbox, wheels, new tyres were supplied by 2CV City and Mike built the blue and black Deauville, with cream leather Jaguar XJ seats, chrome wheel rims and whitewalls and delivered it “as new” in 2006. Since then it has done only 1,400 dry summer miles. It comes with a matching blue full hardtop for the winter ! Changeover from soft top to hardtop only takes about 15 minutes.

All bodywork is fibreglass, so with a new galvanised chassis, stainless bumpers, chrome headlamps, chrome mirrors etc, rust is a thing of the past!

For sale: 1986 French built Citroen 2cv6 Special in Rouge Vallelunga.

She is a particularly lovely example of a 2cv in incredibly unmolested condition and comes with 57k miles at the hands of 4 owners including me. The car has a full paperwork history about an inch thick including almost all the old MOTs, old and new V5s and is currently MOT'd until Dec 2010 and Taxed to Nov 2010. It is my intention once a sale is agreed to put a full years MOT on the car at my expense for the new owner. I have owned the car since June this year, purchasing it locally from a Gent who was giving up driving as a medical condition meant his eyesight was deteriorating and he could no longer drive.

Moving onto the condition, its the kind of car where dealers in much hyperbole would describe it as concours or my particular pet hate word 'mint'. I would describe it as in a wonderfully unmolested original condition, with more than 99% original paint (a single blow in over a scratch on the O/S/F wing) giving off an excellent just polished level of shine. The bodyshell has never been welded after manufacture anywhere at all and the original chassis remains in excellent condition having had two slightly larger than credit card sized repairs on the underside of the central pontoon. The outer body is free of even the beginnings of rust in all the usual places such as around the bonnet hinge, windscreen, ventflap, above the doors, rear sweeps and either side of the tail lamps. Similarly the body panels are all in highly original excellent condition. The doors in particular are quite exceptional with the fronts still excellent in the window frames and underneath, and the rears excellent under the windows and underneath on the sealing strips. The car still wears its original bead rolled edge front wings (again unusual) which are in excellent condition, and rear wings which are very good. The car has obviously been waxoyled and undersealed from new and appears to have had repeat coats at various stages. The structural parts such as sills, floors, rear seat box section, boot floor and inner wings are still excellent all round with the exception of the minor points as below.

The nearside rear seatbelt mount has corrosion about an inch above the horizontal floor panel that has caused the metal to expand and break the paint. The panel still remains solid under finger pressure. The offside rear seatbelt mount is original and still as it was on leaving the factory.

The drivers floorpan has a spot about the size of a 50p directly under the brake / accelerator heel spot where the metal has thinned and cracked.

There is some surface scabbing on the extreme lower lip of the front bulkhead where it sits on top of the chassis at the front.
There is a touched in line on the offside front wing about 10 cm long parrallel with the front bumper about 1 inch above it, in addition to the repaired scratch mentioned earlier.

The nearside rear wing has some scuff / scratches down to the undercoat where the wing has brushed something. These are horizontal and go from the bottom of the wing about 20 cm up the face almost like lines on paper.

Both rear wings have some stonechips touched in at the bottom leading edge of the wings.

Both front wings have pinprick type stone chip spots that have not been touched up

There are some very minor scuff / nick / thumbdents / scratches in the paintwork, all of which are barely noticeable unless pointed out to you or you are specifically going over the body trying to find them.

Hopefully you will see that for a car of its age the points above are really very minor, and I am being as honest as possible about them. You will note that I intend to reMOT the car for the new owner. My honest assessment having put quite a few 2cv's through my local test station is that they will give an advisory for the nearside seatbelt but let it pass MOT and that they might want a little plate over the 50p heel spot. I have not done these two areas because I would like the new owner to see the areas before any work is done. However if both places need rectifying to pass then they will be done prior to exchange, along with any other jobs found.

The car now has new bumpers front and rear and and yellow headlamps (You can have white bulbs instead if you want them). The car still has the red and white stripy roof which is in excellent condition with no splits or tears though there is some brown staining on the white stripes, and a stainless steel vent flap fitted only a couple of years ago according to the receipt in the paperwork. The wheels are the originals and have been polished (not by me I hasten to add) to an almost new level of shine. The backs of all five are fine and free of rust bumps. The car has the obligatory correct Michelin tyres with excellent tread on all four corners (since when did they become £110 each???). All the outer trim is in great condition. The headlamp lenses are still bright and shiny, the aluminium trim strips are good and the taillight clusters are free from cracks or damage.

Inside the car, the seats are near enough immaculate. The front two seats have been rebuilt with new foam and replacement used rubber bands as needed after the covers were professionally cleaned. The covers are now bright in colour instead of grey / brown like they go when grubby. There is no damage at all to the outer side panel of the drivers seat but the the striping impression pressed into the covers has faded like they often do. The floormats are fine front and rear and the dashtrim is still pretty good on the inside of the parcel shelf and on the lower bulkhead. The doortrims are very good on all four doors and the car comes with rear seatbelts and a parcel shelf. The car has been fitted with an ammeter by the previous owner which is bolted to the side of the black metal dash panel. There was originally a clock too but I've removed this as it didn't work.

Moving onto the mechanics, the car now drives beautifully consistent with the mileage. I bought the car with some relatively minor mechanical issues or so it seemed. The car has only just had fitted a recently reconditioned gearbox (by me) proving that things that sometimes seem minor can escalate even when you know what you are doing! Anyway, while the engine and box were out I went to the trouble of totally degreasing the front of the chassis, axle arms and the engine (gearbox was already clean!) before checking all the engine bay components as I went along putting it all back together. As such the engine bay is similarly very clean like the bodywork and nice to work in. I can also verify that this really is the cars original chassis as I found the vin no. stamped in the top of the offside front leg under all the gunge! The car now drives as nicely as it looks with a really nice engine that is not particularly fast but has a lovely sound and feel to it. I've also literally just changed the oil and filter. The gearbox feels great too and the steering is nicely positive and light (helped by the right tyres). The last owner has fitted the knife edges and track rod castle nuts with grease nipples. The kingpins are excellent both sides and the car just feels right now when driven. All of the electrical components work as they should and the car is free of any strange bangs, rattles and knocking noises or anything untoward.

The car comes with a big old wodge of paperwork tracing its history pretty much back to day one. The majority of the old MOTs are present helping to verify the mileage, and both the old V5 and new V5c are present. I've put all the paperwork in date order in an A4 ring binder. Looking back through it all I was struck by how little has actually ever been done to the car. Up until the last couple of years the bills are just for endless minor things like wiper blades, exhaust hangers, the occasional tyre and over rider rubbers etc. The bills in the last few years are almost all bits and bobs from our beloved ECAS - still minor stuff, and a few from 2cv City (new starter motor last year). There is a receipt for the gearbox too.

I hope the description and pictures give you a firm idea that this is a really very nice all original feeling 2cv that hasn't been attacked by cack handed bodgers learning to weld or having a go at amateur panel beating etc. There are what I would consider a few character marks on the body but the car is about as good as you would want a car you to use daily to be, and with more buffing and limited use could be genuinely taken up to being good enough to show IMHO. That said I realise that while there is lots of overpriced tat now kicking about this is a genuine and nice unfettered car which in itself makes it quite a rare beast. I am not prepared to give it away, but I have put it on here at £3000ono because I genuinely think that it would be hard to find another as good for significantly less money and if you understand what you are buying and can offer it a good home then I'd say come and view. You'll get offered a cup of tea and a trolley jack so you can wobble stuff and prod about until you are as satisfied as I am that it is genuine and I'm not hiding anything.

The car is currently based at my home in the village of Kimpton, near St Albans in Hertfordshire. It is road worthy and road legal so can be tried and tested (I would like to see proof of third party cover to drive beforehand though) on the existing MOT before I renew it for the buyer.
